Red pixels all over screen.

I'm getting red pixels all over my screen. This happens especially after some time of usage, though other times it happens as soon as I switch on. Both within Windows and outside it. The pixels are also present on the OCD of the monitor and they are vaguely arranged as thin vertical lines.

The lines are more obvious over any black brackground and almost imperceptible over other colours. If I play a bit with the contrast and colour settings they stop showing on the black but then they show over anything lighter like shades of grey.

Initially I reinstalled my video drivers but that changed nothing and since it shows outside windows I doubt its software.

I changed the cable, so its not that either. I am left with graphics or monitor but I don't have another system at hand to try them individually.

Is this a well known issue with either?

Monitor is a 22inch HP LCD and the graphics card is an ATI 5700 Series 1GB.

Reseat the GFX card and check all the cables are secure.

But first thoughts are that your memory on the GFX card is packing in.

Oh dear. Its not even one year old I think. No hope that it could be the much cheaper monitor? :/

It can and you will need to borrow another to check, or take your GFX card to a mates house? but i've seen this before and it is in my experience the card.

Will do. Thanks.

Also, I'm a braindead fool. My TV has RGB in so I can just connect the PC to the TV to check the video card. Plus I have a laptop so I can connect the VGA out to the monitor to also check the monitor.

When you say these pixels are also on the OCD of the monitor. I take it you mean the monitors settings display (ie when you press menu on the monitor )

If this is the case then its likely to be a monitor issue as the monitors OSD has no relation to the graphics card.

Sometimes the OSD is transparent though, but otherwise it could be a ray of hope for the OP

turns out it is the monitor after all. i waited until the red stuff started appearing and switched the monitor over to my laptop. they still showed.

i guess its good news!

i also guess theres no real way to fix it right?

Ps: and yeah i meant OSD not OCD lol

Just thought I'd share an image I found relevant to my monitor situation (until I can manage to go and buy a new one);
