So it's Uni 3rd year project time for me (not final year) and I need some stimulants. I can't have tea or coffee because I've just paid £250 for teeth whitening (not as gay as it sounds honest) and need to lay off stainable foods for a month.

What do you caffeine junkies or all nighter 3rd years recommend to keep me going during revision and study sessions?
During my first year I used to have a pint of coffee on the hour and redbull original every half hour which made me see shadows turn into spiders and crap myself when ever I looked at the dark corridor.

I'm torn between two products, redbull shots and proplus.

Incase you've not come across redbull shots before, they look like this;

They contain 80mg of caffeine per shot which is non-carbonated so slides down nicely. As they're in liquid form I think this would help with the absorption of the caffeine and work quicker.

The alternative source is ProPlus caffeine capsules. Which are cheaper but are in tablet form which might not be as quick acting.

What do you guys take, bearing in mind I can't take illegal substances because it would disqualify me from my exams and projects if I ever get found out. ;)

Modafinil! Though I think that's illegal in the UK... oh well.

How about just having a sensible work/study schedule. You wont need copious amounts of caffeine then! :p

Why do you think that liquid will hit quicker? I'm pretty sure stomach acid will dissolve pro-plus tablets in no time ;). A lot less sugar and other crap (i.e none) in the tablets too! A lot cheaper too.

I struggle to stick to work schedules because I'm always tired even after 8 hours sleep a night. I'm not anaemic or anything but have been ill for 7 months since coming back from china. I lost two stone because of throwing up whatever ate. I'm a bit better now but can't eat large amounts at a time so struggling to get the food I need to stay awake.

Artificial 'energy' is all I have going for me. :P

That's +1 for proplus then. :)

remember will fron the inbetweeners when he took so much energy drink to keep him up before his exams and he carp himself in the middle of it?

I drink a lot of Red Bull but only cos my housemate works for them, so there's always some lying around, and because there simply aren't enough hours in the day :(

If you get the shots, get the original ones. The diet ones taste like nail varnish :)

Its probably because you woke up and sat around the house (like I did). Get up, go for a run to get your body working and then get to work :) Your have more energy once the body is up and running ;)

This is a pretty sound idea, I might try it. I don't want to go for a run around *my* street but I could do a load of pressups/situps in my living room to get my heart rate up.

If you are ill and not eating well, lots of caffeine is going to do weird things! 8 hours sleep is probably too much. Try just 7 hours. Also go to bed at the same time every night without fail. And get up at the same time without fail.

Don't work in your room if you can help it. Your body needs to associate your bed/room with sleep and get used to a schedule. After a week or two you will nod off almost on que and wake up before your alarm! :D You will feel much better!

being a student large amounts of redbull gets costly. its all about going down to tesco's and getting a ton of kick (tesco energy drink) for cheap :). I know i should be a better student but I seem to be more productive at night and closer to deadlines than being organised hehe.

I havent tried it myself but Ive been reading about a product called '5150 Semi Sweet', seems to be a much cheaper alterative to red bull, and also has a very high caffene content. Its a powder that you mix with your drinks and it takes on the flavour of whatever its mixed with.

You've been ill for 7 months? I'm hoping you've been to see the doctors in this time at least, if not get thee to a doctors forthwith. However that's not really the point, you might find that your university will make allowances for any periods where you have been unwell - you do have to inform them though.

You could also consider snacking on apples, they may not be better than caffeine at keeping you awake but they're pretty good and fairly healthy too.

If I really need it which is rarely I have a tub of caffine tabs lying around that I got from one of the online sports supplement sites, much much cheaper than proplus. Although if your used to nailing a load of proplus because they only contain 30mg caffine be careful as most sports supps ones contain 200mg per tab.
