right the guy who had my car before me used a lead suppliment to boost the performance of the fuel, im not a big fan of this because it tends to gunge up the carbs and various other bits.
so im just gonna use optimax, but to clean out the engine i was looking at using redex, is it a good idea? does it work?

the car is a triumph spitfire 1500 btw, and yes the engine is unleaded.

It works pretty well, but make sure there isn't anything parked behind the car when you put it in (assuming you are going to use it as a carb treatment).
It spurts out all sorts of crap from the exhaust!

You can get specfic carb cleaners to clean up the carbs. Not sure about the redex as I have never used it.

I have found my stage 2 1500 midget doesn't like optimax/super very much. Runs better on the normal stuff.

i'll try another tank of optimax then a tank of reg see if it makes any difference.
how do i use redex as a carb treatment? i thought it was just a petrol additive?

you have the engine running with the airbox off and drop some into the carb intake(slowly)

Just to add to that, ideally you want to be running the engine at a fast idle :)

were do you buy it from as there trade only?
any online outlets?

Im fairly sure forte is usually only sold to trade, we do sell it to people who ask for it though.

Can use redex directly into engine as well, simply pop out the spark plugs(do one at a time) pour a bit of redex down the whole and then stick a rag in it. Then turn the engine over several times. Rag is just to stop redex exploding out everywhere.

You'll get a bit of smoke and it'll sound rough but it'll do wonders for cleaning all the crap ie gum and carbon out. This will be more effctive and quicker than just adding it as a fuel treatment where it will takes weeks of use before a noticeable difference.
