I have tried googling a way to stop this but cant seem to find anything, maybe im wording it wrong

basically on certain websites i will be watching a video and after a while if i pause or skip back/forward im redirected to an ad website
this is especially annoying when you have a tv show or movie that has the title intro a few minutes in rather than right at the beginning as i normally skip through them

its not on every site, just ones that use a lot of ads anyway
i have ABP and UBlock which gets rid of the usual ads and have disabled redirects in Chrome but nothing seems to stop the redirect

anyone know of any chrome addons that would stop this?

Nope.

The Ad developers are outpacing the Chrome developers atm, we're just going to have to put up with it or start paying for add ons/browsers.

If it was just one website might have guessed at the website being hacked (eg for weeks a local newspaper website sometimes redirected you to dodgy ads when you clicked links to stories etc before they worked out they'd got some kind of malware on their website and fixed it). Given it's multiple sites I guess that's probably not it.

Personally haven't experienced this and don't have any other ideas sorry!

yeah it seems to be adverts embedded into certain video players or something, im not sure exactly

i figured it was a long shot since i couldnt find anything from googling it but thanks anyway

A video might be 30 minutes long and adverts are set to play at 5, 15 and 25 minutes. If you try and skip straight to 10 minutes some players/sites will show you the adverts you "missed" before allowing you to watch the video.

I don't think the op is talking about adverts embedded in a video like youtube adverts are. It's the video players that seemingly have clickable links embedded in the video controls, so if you go to adjust the volume it opens an ad in a new tab, or if you pause/adjust quality etc.

yeah this, its like an overlay... it would be fine if it was just a pop-up but it redirects you to a new page so you have to go back and load up the video / find the part you were at

What websites? Not the common ones like twitch, youtube etc?

no, websites like youtube etc use their own video players
its not specific to any type of website but the video players themselves eg JWplayer

im pretty sure its coded into the player
