Back in my days, late 90s / uni-era, Bacardi Breezer was 5.4%, Smirnoff Ice was 5% and WKD was 5.3%. They've since dropped to 4%, 4% and 4.5% respectively. I think Reef has stayed the same at 5%. Beers remain pretty much the same, although Guinness recently dropped from 5% to 4.1%. You can still get all of those super-strength ciders like White Lightning that taste like battery acid lol.

Alcopops aren't my cup of tea, but I wondered why they've got 'nerfed'? Is it because of them having too much appeal to kids?

Draught Guinness has never been 5%, at least not in England in the last 15 years. Think it was stronger in The States for a while.

With alcopops I would imagine it is a political play to demonstrate they are responsible brewers. No idea if there are any tax savings reducing the strength below 5% as quite a few beers are doing the same.

I'm generally looking forward to beers getting weaker again. A nice Mild at 3-3.5% would suit me fine.

The new reduced tax bracket for beers <2.8% I'll wait and see about. I've had 2.8% Mild that is nice but I'm not sure Lagers will fare so well.

a lot of the proper ales could suffer if they were made to lower their percentages. 4-6% is fine imo, theyre meany for enjoying, not drinking 8 pints just tp get smashed.
