Redundancy, what would it take for you?

How many months take home salary before you would consider accepting it? 3, 6, 9, 12 or more?

We have a round going on at work at the moment and I have an offer that is very good, but also an alternative role that I will be offered interally (application was underway before the announcement). I don't need the money, I like the new job and the experience will be great. I could however leave and find a new role on similar money elsewhere within a short period of time.

It is quite funny, I would never have considered it but when the number is starkly put on paper there is a degree of temptation.

I am confident I could find a new job soon but there will be room to grow if I stay.

Don't get me wrong, the money would be nice and would be over 12 months take home but we are already financially comfortable. I don't expect to accept the offer but in all honesty I never thought I would even consider it, however the terms are generous. It really got me thinking about how much would it take for me to leave. I actually don't know the answer.

What's the reason behind the redundancy? Poor performance?

Haha, no. There are wider changes and I was given the objective of closing my role through systems implementation this year with a plan for me to move in early 2017.

Not you, the company.

Just a restructure, company performance is good but the future business simply does not require the numbers it had.

What's to say they won't go through restructure again in 6 months time and make your new role redundant but offer a lower package.

While there are no guarantees, the changes make the likelihood of this so low it can be ignored.

Well think of it this way - you could retire a year earlier.

My pension is very good though
