Redundant PSU

should the psu power down when the system is off? as mine is still on and drawing over 30watts from the wall.

No they do not always power down, I know on some of th Intel rack servers the PSU modules still have thier fans spinning when the system is off.

no they don't, my powerege 2850's PSU's both keep their fans running, when the system is off

Most systems maintain the 5v rail as you can still use USB power on many powered off systems. Also, they keep the 5v to the NIC so WOL can work.

Also if they've got any remote management cards like iLO they'll need power whether the server is off or not.
