Right team, I posted this in the "Crazy Deals" thread......but I thought I would create a new thread as it is hard to track.

Basically.....Card not really behaving as I had hoped.

Very stuttery in crisis 2 even when using the same settings as the 275.

Behaviour confirmed using furmark...short video here

I have used nv for years now and always install/update drivers as advised on boards like this etc.

guys suggested a weak PSU/power problems and low and behold, i heard the PSU singing when the tests/Crysis2 were running

So, today I popped in a 700W OCZ Stealthxstream and the problem hasn't gone, the singing has though.

The GTX570 is buzzing, whistling and making crackling noises now though.

Surely somthing is wrong here?

Gibbo, what do I do? I have got rid of my GTX275 now and really need this rig.

What do you expect? You paid cheapskate money and your getting cheapskate quality, live with it.

On the other hand you could just return it back to OCUK under DSR and stick a note on it saying it's broken or not working. Don't worry about the card though if you read some of the threads about OCUK returns it would appear OCUK has a this PC that can magically repair a video cards back to full working order by just installing the card and playing some games. ;)

On a more serious note just return it under DSR.

WTF dude? 205 quid is not cheapskate money. Yes I could have put 50 quid to it to buy a "brand new" one but that could suffer the same fate. And for what it s worth, I expect absolutely nothing different form a product thats brand new or refurbished in functionality stakes.

You clearly have some issues with OCUK? Please dont drop that beef in here.....

I know I can return it to OCUK, Giboo already clarified that as the cards turned out not to be reference boards.

Anyone else without an agenda that can offer any thoughts?

:p I'm just pulling your leg about the cheapskate thing but if you are going to return this card I highly recommend you try this out on another PC and see if you can replicate the same issues. As for dropping the beef someone else already done that for me.

Are you getting any artifacting (white/red lines on the screen, flickring textuers etc) either in windows or in game? Frankly though if you can hear it making 'buzzing, whistling and making crackling noises' you should just get returned and refunded/replaced.

Fair enough chap......no artefacting at all, just a stutter. Visible in everything.

I also have bought a GTX 570 re-furb so will follow this thread closely, so far mine has run flawlessly when in game and video playback, web browsing etc but does randomly have display driver crashes which I hope is down to 280.26 driver issues, I'll be testing this theory later after the match.

Can you post a video of how C2 behaves and only things I can suggets is installing 275.33 Nvidia drivers and update your motherboard bios.

PS, Your video in your opening post doesn't work.

Video link fixed.

C2 is a hard one to show, more about how smooth the game is running. All I can say is that is smoother at the same settings on my 275. wrong wrong wrong.

What else could be going on here?

Surely the board, PCI-e 1.0 or 6600 couldnt be bottle necking this?

Anything else I can try to be sure?

J

I dont get this "You pays your money" horse $hit to be honest and its getting tiring.

I paid the same kind of money that i would pay on ebay for a second hand card with the benefit being that this one has a 1 year warranty.

Yes, i paid my money......50 less than a new card.......whoop-de-doooo-ffs

Im sure the ratio of new-faulty is the same as refurb'd-faulty......s'pose they "pays their money" too?

j

I will indeed....is that a free D/L or does that cost bucks?

Cos i aint gont none.

Again, my GTX275 has absolutely no problem with furmark and does better than the 570

Oh, and regarding the nVidia link.....I am not stressing the card at all. I literally run it for a few seconds. What you saw in the video was as much as it has ever been done and the computer has been off since.

I have also seen GTX570 Crysis 2 videos online and tbh, they seem to demolish my experience at the same settings.

:)

Ok chaps.....I will try as you all suggest. Downloading now.

I run this at 1920 x 1200......can anyone recommend me settings for 3dmark that will allow us to compare like for like as much as possible?

Thanks
Jinj

So all your games work fine?

Step away from the benchmark!

If I had £1 for every hour I've wasted faffing with benchmarks etc. I'd be a rich chap!

I've given up messing with them now and I enjoy my PC far more!

I mean, who for example would test their car to the point of destruction, just to make sure its running right?

Thats the difference with me chap, my games dont run fine......I have noticed little or no difference in Crysis 2 at the same settings and the same stuttering/crackling seems to be happening

J

Ok, will do matey.

May not get at it right now as we have a 2 day old baby girl to look after at last.

But i do need to get this sorted to establish if there is a problem.

Im not keeping a 700w psu if i dont need it.

And, FWIW.....i read the box of my gtx275 last night and the PSU specs are FAR higher than the requirement of the GTX570. My Tagan did just dandy with that.

J

Jin, did you do a clean driver installation? also what is your gpu usage like when running crysis?

Run afterburner or invidia inspector in the background for 10 mins and post a screen shot of the graphs

Yeah man, always do a clean install. I use the nVidia cleaner built into the installer now though. I trust thats enough?

Congrats on the baby girl mate, You wont have time for gaming! :)

im not convinced that this is a hardware problem tbh mate, but the noise could be faulty vrm`s maybe?

Thanks dude!

Its my second....you would think i'd learn....lol.

Gibbo posted that we could return them if we werent happy as they are non-reference as was expected. Jury is still out here if i like the cooling solution on this one. So I guess i dont need to RMA it to get my money back.

If it just performed as i had hoped it would, it may sway my decision....but if its being arsey it can go back

J

re: the power issue.......just banged in a 700w OCZ PS as i thought my tagan wasnt up to it.

made no difference

:(

aah well.....looks like the card/psu are going back and i will stick with my gtx275 till i can afford a complete overhaul.

J

Ooooh, suspicions..... ;)

I have asked my mate to fire it back to me for a bit as he is only building his rig and hasnt got everything he needs.

Glad now i only sold it to a friend and didnt use the bay.

Ach, all very disappointing this......I was hoping to have a loveley wee updated system for BF3.

Instead.....Ill just be buying nappies :)

J

Yeah, I was certainly disappointed to have paid for postage both my way and back to OCUK and to have none of it refunded as part of the RMA.

Its not my fault that the card was not as described

:(
