I'm a big one for the nostalgia kick - replaying games I grew up on. Looking back most of em are cack by todays standards!, but there are a few diamonds in there that few modern games can touch for gameplay & originality

I'd be interested to hear what people consider to be truly special games:)

Here's a couple (Showing my age here lol)

1) Another World (1991, Interplay) - Literally left me dumbfounded when I first played it. Never seen anything like it before or after. If anyone else here played this in it's day I'm sure they'd say the same. Light years ahead of it's time.

(Actually I did a bit of research, and it's voted no.1 dos game of all time on MobyGames)

2) Hero's Quest (1989, Sierra) - I'm a huge RPG fan, and I'd rate this higher than the BG's or fallouts. Nothing revolutionary here, it was just the perfect game imo.

I'm still amazed by these games today. With mass appeal & the lowest common denominator dictating development of titles nowadays I'm a bit sad already knowing I won't be looking back on today's offerings with much interest

Anyway....there are so many great games from yesteryear that many have never heard of, spread the word, give em a whirl and quit stressing about your 12fps in crysis for a bit;)

I miss games played with isometirc view - things like Syndicate. Real-time and turn-based, it was all good. I revisited Planescape a year or so back and it still put modern fps to shame. The quality of writing, story, attention to detail, atmosphere. I'd gladly pay full price to experience it again at a higher res and with a bit of a makeover.

I've only been gaming on the PC for 15 years so don't really have anything that far back except for Populous 2 and Civilisation.

Generally speaking I find most games before the advent of 3d acceleration pretty poor by today's standards. There are some ones which are still pretty good (Civ2, CM97/97), but I'd rather play Civ4 Complete or FM2008.

I play a lot of so-called 'old' games (typically from around 1999 onwards) and am not obsessed by whatever the latest and greatest new release is (I haven't got STALKER, COD4, Crysis etc yet) but I have limits and when judged on merit most games over 10 years old are nothing special.

Another World was also ahead of it's time in regards to lack of game length, clearly recall it being an utter dissapointment to finish it the day I bought it.

Elite, Rebelstar, Civilisation, Diablo, Everquest

All amazing games for their time and still very playable today.

Tried Mythos? It's basically a new diablo. Got a beta invite if you want it.

agreed ... Another World was amazing and it's been recently re-released with improved backgrounds and resolution making those vector graphics look even sweeter and it's XP friendly now ;)
