Thinking about this as I already have a 1680x1050 22" monitor and many of these are end of life so are avaialble relatively cheaply.

Any idea what sort of performance I'd get? I'd be overclocking the 670 a bit, nothing too extreme, but when running at 5040*1050 would it be a total chuggathon or would the performance be OK?

Apparently it can, yes.
