One of my 6870's is needing a new cooler, since the original is failing, what should I get?

I thought about the Accelero Twin Turbo Pro, but I'm not sure if it will work perfectly on my card.

This is my GPU:

Any advices?

Looking good, though you are aware it's a 3 slot job?

What about the Extreme II, its compatible with it. Im getting 2 on pay day for my 6950s

Gets the tommy two thumps up treatment, one of them is over 2yrs old now and still quiet as the day it went on:

In case you can find any on fleabay, you could grab yourself a bargain and buy a second hand AC 5870 extreme, it's the exact same cooler minus the vrm heatsink, grab yourself some cheap heatsinks somewhere, and you get yourself a real bargain!

Tip for you guys, just in case any of the coolers come with the **** glue, bin it, the heatsinks fall off!

Grab yourself some Akasa Thermal tape(OcUK stock it), works wonders and no drop off 18 months later!:D

cheers tommy, il deffo give that tape a blast, i didnt fancy trying that glue incase i put it on something i shouldnt of by mistake.

Wasnt sure crossfire worked with the acceleros, now im more than happy to try it out.

Also tommy, i was pushing heaven benches the other night, 980/1400 at 1.3v to try and catch your score, couldnt do it, 2417 was the best i got, but yours are flashed to 6970? If thats the case, then im sorta leading the 6950 xfire score i think. Technically though you are i guess, still 6950s with a diff bios.

Thank you for your help, man.

But what you said about the stock thermal tape from Accelero, you sure you cleaned the memories properly? Otherwise it wouldn't stick, like happened.

No problem mate, make sure you give that thread a look over, there is a pic of the pcb with the heatsinks on it.

Make sure you don't forget to put on the heatsink on the small chip next to the to the top horizontal bank of ram to the left, be very very careful too, as you can brick the card by shorting out another chip close by!

It's unlocked shaders@810MHz/[email protected] custom bios, I only up the clocks when benching, during gaming I don't go over 950MHz/1300MHz as they are more than capable.

That result in the Heaven thread was on my old board using 12.2 cats, I have a new Z77 Sabertooth that's faster now, and the newer Cats have since improved my score(2500+:D).

I haven't bothered to upload anything as my last post was deleted because of the new rules on pic sizing, add in the hassles of validating your scores in the thread and I couldn't be bothered tbph.

Be very carefull as you are getting to the limits with the memory on the 6950 and you are verging on 'suicide run' territory with your clocks and volts on air cooling.

It's lower rated rams than the 6970 and I have seen quite a few going pop in various forums due to overambitious clocks!

It's not worth it tbph, no point in wrecking your gpu's just for a BM.:)

I was talking about the glue they used when they stopped using the tape for a while, the last I saw, some new coolers still had the glue, some with tape.

If it comes with the tape then you don't need the Akasa tape because the AC tape is more than good enough, i don't no why they changed to glue in the first place.

I was thinking suicide run as i was doing it lol, ive removed afterburner now, just running on max CCC limits. I heard a pop before and thought a card had burst lol, luckily it was just a floor board under my seat thats a bit loose and makes weird noise now and again.

I was searching about the Accelero cooler and saw that it comes with a pre-applied thermal paste. Was wondering if I should remove it and use Arctic Silver 5. What you guys think?

Ive heard AS5 isnt that good for GPU cooling. Lots of forums i read say MX-4 is better, thats what i was going to get anyway.

Use AC's paste, it's MX-3 or maybe even 4 by now thats pre-aplied on the heatsink, which is at the very least on a par with AS5 and non conductive.
