Whats the difference between standard intermediate and expanded on the Xbox360 dash?

Anything to do with colour as I am trying to set RGB 16-235 rather than full 0-255.

Problem I am having is due to the filtering of my Amp that filters out the non-limited range RGB.

For example:
On Expanded on GTA4 the map has a clear defined edge between the map (grey) and the background (black) when the hdmi lead goes straight to the TV.

When it goes through the amp the filtering removes the Blacker than black range (aswell as whiter than white) meaning it loses that detail and you get black crush.

Ive played around a bit now, seems it is ok on standard (Probably limited RGB) however the picture seems to lack the colour range of expanded. Ho Hum. Seems Yamaha need to understand the HDMI spec better next time they bring out an Amp :(
