Reference levels. Xbox 360 VGA

I play my Xbox 360 via VGA using a 24" full hd AOC monitor. Not sure if it matters for brand/size, but I noticed something in the Xbox settings called 'reference levels'.

I heard expanded is the best for when running your display via VGA, is this true?

Yeah you want expanded. I use expanded on HDMI as well. Its the full colour range I think. All I know is the blacks are blacker/deeper.
