Its really starting to irritate me, with the rest of my pc pretty much silent, the 290 is just a jet engine..
I don't have the money to spend on a 980Ti or probably even a 980, but is there any way that I can 'upgrade' from my 290 without having to sell a kidney, and lose the noise?
Don't get me wrong, awesome card, but I dont see £50+ a wise investment on a cooler when I could just sell and and £50 and get a new card...
I play at 2560x1440 which pixel wise is just under halfway between 1080p and 1440p so aiming at running for 1440p is a good bet, future-proofing 'n that'.
I will have around £300 TOPS to spend, any less is an absolute bonus, just need to sell my old bits first, and the 290 if a new GPU pops up.

Let me know, Cheers!

Don't get your logic.

£50 gets your 290 that'l probably hit 1100/1400MHz in silence.

Or sell it, and add at least another £150 and all you get is a tiny bump in speed and an extra 4Gb?

lol, ppl buy reference because it's a blower so they can 3way/4way, or to add to a waterloop.
buy sapphire nitro 390X, and sell the 290 ( or go with costume cooler on your 290 )

Agreed, 390, 390X or Fury/FuryX are your best bets.

The 390 being the best value price/performance ratio available.

Put a Corsair HG10 adaptor and a Corsair H55 AIO, you'll save a fortune and have a very cool running and practically silent 290

This is what I have on my 290X and the difference is night and day over the standard cooler

+1 for the AIO solution. Going to a 980/390X is a sidegrade at best since overclocking the 290 gets the same level of performance. Unless you spend over $450 for a 980ti/FuryX/Pro you won't get much of a jump in performance. Crossfiring the 290 would get you 980ti or faster performance.

Add another non-reference 290 for around £160 + an AIO cooler for your old card is the best option for less than £300.

Yeah, I just thought buying a 390 or something similar, after selling my 290 would be an easy way to cool it and keep it from being stupidly loud.
I am currently in the process of selling my old parts, on the bay (8320, MSI 990FXA-GD65, 8GB Corsair Vengeance and Corsair H100) (just incase anyone wants anything) and I will no doubt be putting that money into something to do with my PC lol.
Would the AIO route be the best option? For £70 it seems a large investment..

If you can overclock the 290 to around 1150MHz or higher then it's worth it since that would give you 390X level performance. The AIO will allow you to keep temps down when bumping up the voltage to overclock.

I am edging towards the Kraken G10 and Cooler combo at the moment, looks a great offer.. Would also look good too

don't you go buy the 19£ kraken alone lol, you need a closed loop cooler like the corsair H50 or H90, you have a list there, also it's better to buy vram rads.
and you should also know that if you still have warranty on your 290, it will be void once you open it, also go on youtube, and search how ppl install these on their cards to see how comfortable you are doing that.

Hahaha dont worry im not that stupid ;) Hence why I said 'and cooler combo' and ive already had it apart, from recommendation of poobuyer who said there was nothing wrong with it when it kept overheating ages ago, and never even tried to test it in a normal place that wasnt freezing cold, such as a warehouse. The guy said try replacing the thermal compound, and it sort of done the trick, minus the fact the card dosen't stop throttling, and even then at about 750mhz core, the fan is still stupidly loud, im thinking like 70%+ which on these is crazy loud!!! I have looked at quite a few videos in the past and it all looks really quite simple.
