I need to fit the stock cooler back onto a 580

ive bought the right thermal pads, confirmed by evga, 0.5mm

put the pads on the chips where they should be, slathered the gpu with thermal paste

and screwed it back up

when i look in the gaps though, the thermal pad doesnt look like it is being compressed - it might just be the angle im looking at it

my questions are:
- if the cooler isnt in contact with the memory chips, what should i look for on-screen to signal that?

- how hot do these memory chips get? as ive had a 6970 with no memory chip cooling whatsoever

A1. Artefacts.

easy answer is to take it off and look at the thermal pads if there is an imprint in the pad its making contact.

the best thing to do is actually try it out using software then if temps are barbaric then start over ensuring immidiate contact with tim

but dont i then need to fit new pads? i dont really wanna resuse pads and theyre expensive

no you dont need new pads!

When you take the cooler off the pads should still be stuck to the cooler if they have bedded in.

Do you buy new underpants every day or wash and reuse them ?
(only joking)
