Looking for peoples oppinions on something that i have done ever since owning a pc. Ive allways had a thing about reformatting my pc, i love the fresh install as it feels so nippy and clean, but what impact does this really have on gaming? when your pc feels clogged down with all the crap youve gatherd over the past year or so do you feel a performance boost after a fresh install of your OS or is it all in your head?

There is definitely a performance boost in Windows... in games though, I doubt it. Maybe a couple of frames extra but nothing to write home about.

Might be a slight difference in I/O overhead (e.g. when loading levels) but the majority of that could probably be achieved by defragging.

Obviously, there is also the possibility that you have fewer background apps etc running following a reformat depending on what you reinstall.

no doubt the case, never really noticed a WOW kind of differance just more in my head i think, allways enjoyed the task a little aswell wich is a little sadist i know but hey!

I find games tend to run the same unless there was a really urgent need for a format anyway - in which case it is like night and day.

That said, a format tends to make regular computer usage go so much faster I tend to do it anyway :)
