Reformatting a locked Surface Pro 4

It's BitLocker. Entering a PIN is one of the protectors you can specify when setting it up (or enable via group or local policy)

Surface 4 has a TPM chip so you wouldn't normally enable that option, and if you do it's a blue password input screen before Windows even boots. I think the PIN he is talking about is just a standard windows logon PIN.

@Meatball, can you confirm you know the PIN, as you say you can get to the logon screen

It's both pins we don't know; The user pin you use for log in pin and the Bitlocker key which need to be entered to perform any kind of format/reset.

How he's gotten himself into this situation I don't know!!

At this point then you might be best just taking the thing apart, remove the SSD and put it in a PC and reformat it. It's an M.2 SSD and it does't cost much to buy a USB adapter for it.

lol these things are not designed to be disassembled, any SSD installs I've seen has included cutting the chassis!!!

Hi people

I have a surface pro 4 bought used for my daughter i5 128gb of eBay, turns out there was a password on windows 10 login screen asking to login to a domain which we didn't no it, so watched a online videos held the power and shift on boot up could get to advanced reset this PC chose to remove all files setting kept saying there was a problem and just goes back to advanced settings screen

So then I try'd to go into the bios to change the boot setup but no a pass word only letting me see basic info.

I've now dropped it in to a local shop I shown them I could get into the C: by find a image in advanced settings they right clicked reformatted the C: now soon as boots up goes rite to password no windows login because it's easy to tell they reformatted the C: this is what I found out the the day after leaving it with them so I give them a peace of my mind and said it's worse now then when I give it you....so his friend is saying it needs taking apart I'm pose to collect it tomorrow but I can't see how there can fix it because of the incription on uefi to change boot order..... I see a couple of people said to put the M2 connected to another pc put windows back on it build back up....but won't it still be incripted via the bios and could some please help any advice should be great

Sorry for the long story

Why didn't you ask the eBay seller for the password then remove it?

Because now he won't respond I've contacted eBay to to try to open a case as not sold as stated but because it was bought outside there rules they saying I should have stuck to these selling rules

My daughter was just in when it was dropped of as I was working so now we have no point of contact with him

It may work once it's collected tomorrow from reading above but I'm just trying to find out some extra points info as a backup plan

They said at first point try'd to flash the bios but I can't see how if it was locked out to boot from USB so tells me simply reformatted the C: hoping it would solve the issue but it couldn't of obviously

OP , why doesn't the Microsoft and USB work on your laptop ?
As long as the USB is a bootable disk , the locked laptop can be booted by it .Check your Bios Settings.

This thread is older by over a year... I think you're too late :p.

On the other hand, around November odd 2017, I used a bootable USB by Rufus and my SP4 was able to boot into the installer fine. The W10 media creator is trash.
