Hi. I did a search, but my pc is running majorly slow, so it took a rather long time, and I got impatient. I'm very sorry, as I'm sure this has probably been covered before (or maybe it is beneath you all :)).

I've never reformatted and reinstalled XP before, and certainly not on a SATA harddrive, so I'm a little confuzzled. This is what I've done so far:

I read a website that said to reformat I insert the Windows disk, boot from that, then select recovery console, from where I type 'format C: /fs:ntfs'.

Now, I tried to select recovery console, and got a message sayin something along the lines of Windows can't find your HDD.

So, it restarts, and I boot from Disk. This time however, I press F6, and load the SATA drivers from the Floppy Disk that came with the PC. It seems to accept the drivers, and I continue along my merry way. I press 'R' to bring up the recovery console and get the same message.

Could a very kind person please explain to me where I am going wrong, and if it isn't too much trouble, perhaps provide me with a small description of how to reformat and reinstall windows on my SATA HDD.

I would be most grateful.

Thank you please.

boot to windows xp cd

press F6 when prompted, "install" th SATA drivers from floppy, continue with the install DO NOt press r for recovery console, choose setup windows...

it will then check for a previos install and give you partition info in a box below, it will say press enter to repair a previous install or press esc to install a fresh copy of windows, choose fresh install, the next screen will say format with NTFS or NTFS (Quick) just choose the quick option, it will copy the setup files over and continue on its merry way

$c8t@

(ps thats from memory! forgive if what it says is slightly different, all you want is to install your SATA driver, and follow the prompts for the install, ignore the recovery console)

Ok. I F6, load the driver from disk. Then Instead of pressing 'R' to enter recovery console, I pressed Enter to go into Windows setup, and unfortunately I still get the same, 'Windows cannot detect a hard disk drive installed on your computer...' message.

:(

Well there is a list of 4 drivers, one of which is XP, so I guess I am assuming it's that one.

I have an ASRock K8Upgrade - 1689
