Hi guys. I bought a 2 litre tub of Tesco soft scoop vanilla ice cream at 2.30pm today and now, two hours later, it's completely defrosted to cream. :(

I read its dangerous to refreeze ice cream that's completely defrosted so do I bin it?

Who said that?
I googled 'can I refreeze ice cream' and the top result says,

'It is only safe to refreeze ice cream if it is slightly melted and has been kept cold. If it melted outside the freezer, refreezing it and eating it could be unsafe. When ice cream melts, bacteria such as Listeria can grow. Listeria outbreaks can occur in freezers when ice cream that melted is refrozen.28 Jun 2016'

Sorry it was a ghost joke.

I’ve re frozen ice cream loads of times and I seem to be still alive.

Safe or not as someone else said it'll have a very unpleasant texture unless you can be bothered to stir it frequently while it freezes.

"could"

A meteorite could fall on your house too

When ice cream is initially made it has air injected while its being churned which makes it lighter and less of a liquid so when it freezes it gets its usual texture. When its melted and then refrozen ice crystals are formed and gives it a horrible gritty texture.

Thanks for the info guys. However, I decided to bin it last night. For the sake of £1.80, not worth eating bad texture ice crystal ice cream or the possibility of getting ill. Pity though, I hate wasting food like that. I'll get another one today and I'll make sure it's the last thing I buy before driving straight home! :D

FYI....if you have a Ninja Creami...you could have put it into that container then once frozen, turn it back into ice cream post freezing.

Will cost you £200 though, but still cheaper than a Paco jet.
