Basically went out the other night after making some frozen pasta thingy and left the freezer door open by the next morning everything had thawed out by the time I noticed.

I closed the freezer door again so now its all refrozen but the key question being is it safe to eat?

I have frozen meat based meals and then some packs of bacon / sausages, some rump steak and some ice cream.

Are they okay to eat or need to be binned?

ty ocuk.

The cooking nub

*edit - Google says chuck it but I really fancy some steak right now ^_^.

Yeah they'll be fine! We've all eaten worse, and whats the worst the can happen?!!?

You might find the icecream to be a bit weird, but thats down to personal prefference.

I was thinking the same.. It's all about the bacteria growing while its at roomish temperature I assume but surely once its been either microwave nuked or the steak cooked a bit more than I usually would it would kill at the blighter's.

Hmm just checked the bacon etc and its not even frozen STILL its like... wet xD and not solid... hmmm

its like 3 packs of bacon, a rump steak and a pack of sausages I'm going to have to chuck and I'm bloody hungry :<

why would you have to chuck it ? eat it . eat it all

meat lasts ages in the fridge and you say its only been unfrozen for a matter of hours or a night at most

if it looks and smells ok then it will be fine. the only one id slightly worry about is chicken/poultry but you dont mention any

Its the poisons that the bacteria produce that effect us mostly not necessarily the bacteria themselves. cooking does not remove the poisons.

You all know better than the Doctor, say Hi to Darwin at the Darwin awards for me

If your a fit and healthy individual im sure just cooking it off and giving it a go cant do much harm, the worst that will happen is an average bout of food poisoning (its not like its been left in the sun for 3 days), so id be the optimist on the steak at least! (really fancy steak now too)

Amazing how little people know about food safety! Once meat is defrosted, you MUST NEVER freeze it without first cooking it.

One of the best ways of getting food poisoning.

You will only get food poisoning if you don't cook it properly or there is some form of cross-contamination between raw and cooked foods or surfaces etc.

Of course in a restaurant it would have to be binned due to the law, but at home it will be perfectly fine so long as it's cooked properly. Might taste/feel a bit dodgy though.
