Hello,
I have just purchased the samsung syncmaster 225bw which i have connected to my BFG 7800 GT OC card using the digital connector.

Unfortunatly i cant seem to increase the refresh rate above 60hz as this is the only refresh rate listed in the dropdown. I am using the resolution of 1680 X 1050 x 32.

I can see a flickering because of this when using desktop software.

The manual says it supports 75hz, and i have manage to achieve this in new games where it can be specified.

Any offers?

Yeah you need to use a VGA>DVI Convertor, they usually come with yur graphics card.

There isnt a noticible diff in quality between VGA and DVI.

VGA can let you select whatever refresh rate u need.

Flickering on a TFT @ 60Hz over DVI? Something's wrong, and I very much doubt it's the refresh rate.

TFTs only update when they need to, they don't refresh all the time like CRTs so it shouldn't flicker at all at 60Hz (whereas a CRT would be migraine inducing at that refresh)

see here about refresh rate, 60Hz is optimum for a TFT, and flickering is not an issue since they dont refresh in the traditional CRT way :)

Thats a worry, it looks like a CRT set to 60hz. Tried it in XP and Vista and both the same.

Would you say this is faulty then?

Does it on dvi and vga tried both cables.

Off to try it on another machine now. Only thing i can think that may be causing it is an overclucked graphics card.

I have tried it on 2 other machines, and it looks exactly the same. I have never noticed a flicker on any of the other TFT's i have used.

I am now worried that if i try to return it they will say there is nothing wrong with it, as only some people can seem to see it (just like some people dont notice anything wrong with a CRT as 60hz).

Even just spending a few hours on this is making my eyes tired.

What do you think?
Is it faulty?

I would try and get it replaced. It doesn't sound right, you shouldn't notice any flickering tbh on the TFT. It may be something that will only get worse over time, and you can't use it if it's hurting your eyes/head.

Get in touch with Samsung and try and get it replaced. ;)

Thanks,
I have sent Overclockers a webnaote, and i'll aslo try samsung in the morning.

cheers for the advise, i'll let you know how i get on.

Well, i have spoken to Overclockers who say they will offer a refund, but cannot replace monitors. And i have spoken to Samsung who have said it sounds faulty and will be coming to collect it and will leave a new one in the next 5 working days.

I told overclockers and that are happy to refund me if the next one from Samsung is also the same.

now i have just got to be patient :-(
