I recently built a new system and bought a Samsung 22" SyncMaster 2253BW I've put the res up to 1680x1050 but now it wont let me use 70 or 75Hertz is this normal? I hate using 60 as it gives me a headache!

Graphics card is a ATi HD4850 with the 8.8 drivers if that's any help!

I can understand you saying 60HZ gives you a headache if you was using a CRT.
But LCD`s refresh differently. Flicker wise you wont tell the difference between 60 and 75 on and LCD. LCD`s simply do not flicker

It may just be down to the light intensity of the panel.
Modern panels have a luminence of 400 + cd/m2 which is retina burningly bright. If you look around they recomend 125 - 175 cd/m2 for low light viewing or set acordingly depending on ambient light. Personally I find anything over 275 for browsing hurts my eyes.

Try to adjust the Brightness and contrast down to a comfortable level

somethikng you may want to try is use the disc that came with the monitor and run natutal color pro i assume that comes with all samsings as its there program anway its a calibration things with on screen instuctions and you put in info ie like how bright an area you working in etc.

may be worth a go ? cause ouit of the box i found my 2253lw uber bright. and hurt me eys

refresh rate on a TFT will not give you a headache, since it doesnt operate in the same way as a CRT. As said, more likely to be the brightness, or just getting used to the new screen

I have been told that if your run interlaced PAL video (at 25fps) on a monitor with a a native frequency of 60Hz (as most can't run at 75Hz via DVI) , it will effectively repeat every fifth frame - and therefore cause the video image to look jerky...

Is there any truth in this pls?

Thanks

Julian
