currently I have:

Creative titanium hd (had for years)
Sennheiser 595s (had for years)
Zalman clip on mic

I’m tempted to get the gsp600s and maybe an ae5. Is it worth considering the akg712s/modmic v5? Are the modmic s that good?

Both are very good, but Senneheiser are known for the quality of the microphones on their premium headsets. Can't really comment on whether the Modmic can match the microphones Sennheiser use on their premium headsets. Best left to those who have experience of both.

I'd take the AKG K712 or K702 over Sennheiser headsets for the headphone part though.

AE-5 would be a good choice regardless and has a proper headphone amp whereas the Titanium HD doesn't, which will certainly be a very good pairing with the AKG's.

Another option is the V-Moda boompro. For use with AKG headphones you'd need an adaptor as it uses 3.5mm and AKG use mini XLR. Will lower the microphone height, but isn't a problem according someone who posted in another thread that has that combination. Bonus would be one cable, compared to two if using the Modmic.

Went from HD595's to the GSP600 myself , GSP's work great with onboard ALC887 , also use them with the Modi2/Magni2 and D30/A30 cant say i notice any difference in quality from the onboard just sounds a bit different.
GSP's are a bit boomy compared to the 595's and no where near as comfy as the well used 595's.

Considering age of HD595 you must have won jackpot in plastic alloy and molding tolerance lottery...
Mine started cracking from ear cup's to headband attachment part after 2½ years.

GSP600 is closed so any actually good for gaming open headphone would likely beat it easily with "right hand bound behind back".
And certainly after HD595 closed can would be downgrade.
AKG K702 would be very affordably priced if you like neutral bass.
If you would like more fun bass for games then K712 or Beyerdynamic DT990 would do fine.
(though would likely want some - 3/4 dBs for 8kHz band in equalizer at least for Beyer)

AE-5 has vastly superior headphone output compared to Titanium HD...
In fact best of sound cards with Asus bumbling output impedance to 14 ohms from usual 10 ohms of TPA6120 in gaming hype Strix Raid DLX.

had the dreaded cracks on both sides of the attachments , epoxy and 2 heavy duty cable ties kept them alive for nearly 10 years , they are still my main headphones although might try the DT990's in 600ohm just so i have not wasted my money on the two stacks.
