Hi

Having some problems with my tower and it looks like the graphics card is dead, so while its being rebuild i'm going to upgrade.

Current spec is:

Gigabyte EX58-UD3R : http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=2989#ov
Core i7 8core 920 @ 2.7
ATI AMD Radeon HD 4870
3x2GB DDR3 RAM
Vista Ultimate x64
1000w modular PSU

Could anyone tell me if the following parts will fit/work with the current motherboard/psu/processor i have?

Ram: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-294-CS

GFX Card : http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-162-PC

SSD : http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-122-OC

OS:Windows 8 Pro

I'm not very clued up with hardware in general, so if someone can confirm if this would work or have any better suggestions please let me know

Thanks Idleman,

I mean no offense, but are you 100% sure that these items with work in conjunction with my current motherboard? the EX58-UD3R is the older 1.0/1.1 version (pc is around 6 years old at this stage)

Just want to check before ordering as i hate having to return items if i've given you inadequate information.

Also would it be worth going for a 4th stick of ram to bump the total to 16gb? I really only play EVE online, but have to be able to have more than two clients running at the same time would be nice.

Just checked out your mobo specs, 2x4GB will do you for gaming, unless you are running applications that require more. If you don`t already, you might want to get a cooler and OC that 920, it`s still a decent Cpu.

I'm happy enough to pay for the expensive stuff as long as it'll work with my current mobo. The PC in question doesn't get pushed hard that often, but would rather have plenty of speed/ram to spare than find the computer lacking 2/3 years down the line.

Edit: The cooler i have on the CPU is some sort of massive noctua duel fan setup as when first ordered the pc was setup with overclocking in mind, i just never needed too.

I'll go ahead and order the 16gb suggestion and see how i get on.

Out of interest, why the changes in brand of ram in each post?

I chose the Viper due to their height, as the Corsair restricts the use of most air coolers.
The TeamGroup are very good and £115 for 16GB is good value, also frees up 2 slots if you require more than 16GB. You could add two sticks of your current ram(providing they have the same timings) and have 20GB.

Ah yes, i see what you mean, with the side of the case off there isn't a great deal of room for the left-most slot of ram with the big cooler/fan combo.

Well thanks again, I'll be placing the order tomorrow and will let you know how i get on.

Cheers :D

Are you going for the dual channel(2x8gb) or the tri-channel(3x4gb), I would personally go with the 16gb, for reasons I have already mentioned.
But good luck with whichever you decide.

It'll be the duel channel 16gb, i'm going to be greedy and see if my builder can wangle in the other two 2gb sticks in along with it :P
