Just had a family size chicken and pasta bake, needless to say I didnt even get half way through it.

Anyway I want to reheat it tomorrow so it will need refigerating although I am sure someone once said that you should not put hot fiid straight into the fridge, although I know I should not leave it at room temperature too long.

Is this true? I should just let it cool for an hour or so then bob it in the fridge?

sounds about right. Let it cool, then cover it, then fridge it. That's what I'd do anyway :)

No you shouldn't put hot food in a fridge as it brings the temperature inside the fridge up which could possibly lead to bacteria being able to grow on other foods in there

Make sure you cover it and leave it too cool for a couple of hours. Also make sure you completely reheat it before you eat any, I personally would keep it for a max of 2 days. Also only reheat once

Wont really do it any harm to put it in the fridge straight off, done it loads of times. But it is best to cool it uncovered then wack it in the fridge later covered. As to reheating well just make sure it is bleeding hot. :p

I always wonder why I thought it was to do with cooling it too fast would cause bacteria on the meal its self or something like that, not that that nakes sense! :p

Thanks for the info guys, it should make a nice dinner tomorrow. :D

WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T LEAVE RICE, YES RICE, OUT AND REHEAT/HEAT

Rice is one of the most dangerous food, especially considering how most people don't think it is dangerous and leave rice salads in the warm for hours.- I would rather eat raw chicken.

Very nasty bacteria lives in rice, you can't reheat rice more than once really in catering and if left warm for a while it can make you very ill. If you ever have a dirty onset of the squits after a curry or a chinese, 9/10 it is dodgy rice. :)

Nicked this from the New Zealand Health Authority website.
