My 60gb ps3 finally bit the dust at the weekend, has anyone had a refurb from Sony and if so do they last? dont want to have to fork out £130 for it to ylod on me again in 6 months

cheers

If you can, put the money towards a new slim model, I think some supermarkets are still selling a 250GB move bundle for £260 I think...

the refurbs are hit n miss. I've had two so far, first one lasted 4 months, second (touch wood) has lasted over 13 months so far..

I had to pay £90 for the second one, I was not best pleased at the time, but a new PS3 cost around £300 at the time..

The move bundle is a good deal.

I would just go for a slim. There's quite a few horror stories with the refurbs...very much hit and miss. And after a couple of refurbs, you will have spent as much as it costs for a slim.

Also, sell your broken 60GB on ebay. They are somewhat of a collectors item I think, and people buy them to fix them. My mate got £90 for his broken 60GB.

I bought a refurbed ps3 with a short 90 day warranty last year, it lasted about 5 months before the ylod, i had it repaired locally pretty cheap and its been fine since. Just be sure you get plenty of warranty.

That's one of my main worries to be honest, only lasting four months is ridiculous really... did you get both from sony?

Yes, the first one lasted 4 months and I complained a lot... It took two weeks to get the second one but only as I refused at first..

I got a 40GB phat replacement for £90 with 12 month warranty and this one was boxed, and not in some plastic wrapper... Which was odd..

It looked new, but then all refurbs do... I'd get a new slim if I was you... Sony did a good job of slimming the PS3 down and it uses less power and looks nicer too...

Haggle with sony and they give you a 12 month warranty

Doesn't take much actually, two or three phone calls and they normally cave in and give extra warranty...

He'll need to weigh up the pros and cons of haggling for extended warranty on a refurb, or a brand new slim...

Just a question, is this the PS3 with PS2 support?

Don't sony give you a 12 month warranty on the work carried out or refurb seeing as it's £130 ? if not that is pretty shoddy customer care

I got a refurb when my 60GB had YLOD, worked fine for 8 months until it died due to RLOD or another issue, was sick of it so bought a new Slim which is MUCH quieter and now I am happy again.

Sony customer care is very poor. They don't budge with the price of a repair easy at all, and they don't like giving out extended warranty but they will if you complain hard enough..

£90 was bad enough, but £130 is a bit of a joke. For £130 more you get a new slim console, another HD you can sell on if your old one is larger, a new DS3 pad to go with your existing one and if you've been lucky you get move controllers as well.. Maybe a game thrown in as well for good measure.

Plus put the old one on ebay, 60GB broken PS3's do sell.

Looks like im going to just bite the bullet and buy a new one... i would like to go down the manufacturers fault route but as i bought it from virgin megastores im not going to be able to do that :(

Any ideas for the best deal, seen one for £269.95 with ps move? anything better out there?

cheers

Not too bad, a supermarket was selling the PS3 move bundle for £260 ish which is about what you've seen already.

to be honest, £130 for a refurb PS3 + £45 for a move starter kit that makes it £175. You'll get a new DS3 pad, thats £30, you're up to £205 already, so an extra £60 gets you a brand new PS3 with move kit and a new pad + years warranty so I think its the best option..

I would however make a few calls to sony and complain, you just never know... If they drop the price of a refurb to £90 + a years Warranty, then consider it... Otherwise the new PS3 is a decent option...

I'm glad I traded in my 60gb when the Slim came out. I only at to add another £50 to get a brand new slim for peace of mind. It seems that it's only a matter of time before a 60gb PS3 dies. Shame really as I prefer the old 60gb PS3s.
