does it work and is it worth using?

this is a question i've had on my mind for a while. I'm pretty basic in my knowledge on these things.

i've got regestry mechanic which apparently fixes and cleans it all out.

but i've heard that these things do more harm than good.

is this true? what are the fact on them?

any help would be appreciated

Ive used it before on my old XP system with no ill effect.

Now-adays I just use Ccleaners built in reg-cleaner....dunno if its better or worse.

Never had any probs with either of the above, thats about as much advice as I can give on the subject.

They can do more harm than good but thats in 1 in million scenarios, I use the Ccleaner one regularly and no problems here

Another vote here for CCleaner. Free and regularly updated.

I've used CCleaner and Winoptimiser (ashampoo) - prefer the latter as it does less damage to firefox. But CCleaner is free...
