Region control on PS3

Quick question as above. I know that PS3 Games dont have region control on them so its possible to import games from the states etc. Does this apply to old PS2 and PS1 games also?

Just curious as i just purchased FF Tactics, Suikoden and Suikoden 2 for PS1 but as they are all American NSTC versions. Will they work on my PS3 or will i need to get a hold of an NSTC PS1/2 in order to play them?

Hoping my PAL PS3 will play them as the 3 above cost £45 each and i dont really want to have to buy a console to play them on as well >.<
 
I think it does NOT apply to PS1/PS2 games as they are region specific.

I think it's not the machine that is region free, but the games are.
 
Yes PS1/PS2 games are specific to the region where they were brought from.

So PS2 games brought in uk will not work on a usa PS3 and vice versa
