Hi,

I have checked the availability of an *.eu domain name and wish to register or purchase it for 1 year with the option to renew however there seems to be lots of companies offering the service and varying in price.

Also, I wish to lease some web hosting so checked out Vidahost as recommended in another thread on the forum re web hosting however, Vidahost charge £19.99 to register an *.eu domain name and it can be obtained at half that cost elsewhere.

Can I register the domain name using a different company than that providing the web hosting then simply get the web hosts server configured with the details? Also, do I get the email addresses for the domain name from the company that registers the domain name or do they come from the web hosting provider?

Having never registered a domain name before or leased web hosting before it's all new to me so I am just a bit in the dark as to what my options are and how I should proceed.

personally i prefer godaddy for domain registration. You can sometimes get you emails from the domain registrar too, but I prefer to set them up with the hosting provider.

I use Vidahost for hosting my business, far far superior to 1and1 . . . .
I use 123Reg for my Domains. You can point the domains wherever you like, so you do not need to use the hosting provider to do it for you. Personally, I like to keep them seperate.

Update - I registered the *.eu domain name using Vidahost and it was painless, in addition, they also accept PayPal as a method of payment - excellent service.

I moved my stuff out of GoDaddy, the state of their cluttered website and insane upselling attempts is beyond a joke.
