anyone know of a safe registry cleaner i can download, free if possible!

ideal would be one that finds problems, presents them and the user deal with manually..............

thanks...........

CCleaner if you really must, best left alone unless you are having specific issues in my opinion though as I've yet to see one do any noticeable good and have seen them cause plenty of harm.

I +1 that +1!

The real question, for the OP, is how do you know what registry entry is safe to delete or not? If you know most/all registry cleaners are pretty much digital snake oil, what makes you think any entry CCleaner, say, is in fact broken?

As Dano say, unless you have a specific issue [therefore you know which registry entry is a problem] why would you need a registry cleaner?

you can use a search engine to help find what you can delete or not.

I agree about being very cautious and have read articles on the issue, my conclusion was the same but things like duplicates can be ok to remove.

I back it up before I do anything. startup is much better now and the performance gain noticeable, but once you have done some obvious things it could get very nitty gritty..............the registry will only ever grow bigger :(

found some great apps supported by microsoft:

I am not sure how Sysinternals tools are relevant. Of course they are supported by MS. Sysinternals is owned by MS. Mark Russinovich is one of their top Windows engineers.

If you are talking about startup entries in the registry, then nuking those is safe and CCleaner presents a list of all the common locations in the registry.

i just been clearing out my startup and I have noticed a big enough difference.

it seems to run better too afterwards and applications load a lot crisper without having to go through all that stuff at the begining.

I have a couple of double entries in my startup...........the are listed in different places but point to the same dll - would it be ok the remove the double entries?
