registry cleaning

my dad recently downloaded some registry cleaning software for £20 and his pc seems to run a lot quicker. Is there any free software that will do this?

ccleaner does't seem to want to work properly in vista x64 for me, everytime I do a reg clean it cleans it then I scan again and the files are still there?

No, don't go into Safe Mode, just run it in the ordinary way, you might want to try running it by right clicking and selecting "Run as administrator."

regseeker is more thorough than ccleaner (i use cclenaer for files, regseeker for reg)
