Hi there

I’ve decided it’s time to get rid of my Clio trophy due to me buying a house;
I’ve got around £2000-£2500 to spend on a car. I’m going to be doing quite a lot of mile-ledge and would like to try and keep spending down as much as possible.

I’m gutted I have to get rid of the trophy but I simply can’t afford to buy a house with the outstanding money I owe on it and potential maintenance of it.

Any thoughts on what i could buy – obviously I know it’s going to be quite a down grade from the Trophy.

Cheers

Ross

TBH, the old classic. Get a Mondeo, whatever engine takes your fancy. I'd just get a 4 pot petrol.

I was in the same boat as you last year, was saving for a deposit on a flat Integra had to go, bought a mondeo st24 for £1200. Does the job, not exactly great on fuel but at least it has a bit of go about it.

but it is fun
But seriously a mondeo IS what you want.....isnt it ?

A mk3 is a much better car overall for general car duties though. I'll recomend the usual, 2.0l petrol mk3 in at least Ghia spec with full service history and a couple of owners.

What kind of mileage are you doing? Is a lot of it motorway stuff, or more so around town etc?

If you're wanting to lower your costs, why not just buy a standard Clio? Parts are pretty cheap AFAIK, and you should get decent MPG from one.
