I will soon be getting a Steelseries Simraceway wheel, I was planning on using the usb port on the front of my pc case, and storing the wheel in a cupboard when not using it.

I was wondering could this regular connecting and disconnecting from the usb port damage the wheel in some way?

I could keep the wheel plugged in I suppose but I don't really have anywhere to store it when not being used.

I'd like to know the answer to this. Thanks.

Technically over time this will damage the USB connector - as they are rated for a certain number of insertions. Gold plated connectors improve this as the gold is more malleable.

I wouldn't worry about it tbh though, we are talking a lot of insertions. I've never had a full size usb connector die before the product it's attached to ended it's useful life.

My advice is to treat it like an inexperienced lady - don't just ram it in, be gentle.

Aslong as your not careless I can't see it being a problem under normal conditions, I regularly plug in and unplug my wheel and have been doing so for about 6 years or so and no problems so far.
