Reheating Chinese

I've been reheating left over Chinese takeaway food for as long as I can remember, and have never once got ill from it.

Now leftover takeaway pizza, that's best when it's cold!! Under NO circumstances should you reheat takeaway pizza!!

This thread is so dumb, rice spores? Do they errupt from your stomach to reveil a malevolent alien race as well?

Why are there so many threads like this asking about sell by dates etc? Its like the forum is full of 18 year olds that have just left for uni and have never eaten anythign that wasnt spoon-fed to them by their mums.

Re-heated egg fried rice for brekky kicks ass.

I ALWAYS order loads more than we can possibly eat that night so there will be stuff left over for brunch the next day. It's part of what I like about ordering a Chinese, it's dinner and brunch all in one. Result!

theres a risk that the rice will give you posioning but its very small

personally i wouldnt re-heat any takeaway but thats just me

Many rice recipes (for stir fries in particular) mention to use cold cooked rice. I've never ever had a problem with doing that or nuking a takeaway.

i cant believe this thread has lasted this long, Heat is up in the microwave and eat the bloody thing be done with it, Jeezze

You slate people for enquiring about sell by dates but yet you dub the whole thread on rice spores dumb. Some bacteria survive cooking in the form of spores, this is true, end of, if left for long enough(longer whilst refrigerated compared to room temp) and can lead to quite nasty food poisoning.
This is a fact, end of, it is not dumb, it is simply true.
Some people are not as experienced with food as some of the rest of hence, hence why they are, better to be safe than sorry.

Sell by dates are infact there for a reason, to cover companys backs, but there are cases where the product is deemed 'off' on the printed sell by date, I actually experienced this twice last week, but I know what to look out for etc so the off products were binned.

Cold, not OLD :) You can cook rice and leave it near a window for 5minutes and it will then be cold :) I do this when I make any fried rice

Rice is well dodgy to reheat, avoid at all costs

I've heard that reheating rice can cause food poisoning. Is this true?

It's true that you could get food poisoning from eating reheated rice. But it's not actually the reheating that's the problem – it's the way the rice has been stored before reheating.

Uncooked rice can contain spores of Bacillus cereus, bacteria that can cause food poisoning. When the rice is cooked, the spores can survive. Then, if the rice is left standing at room temperature, the spores will germinate into bacteria. These bacteria will multiply and may produce toxins (poisons) that cause vomiting or diarrhoea. Reheating the rice won't get rid of these toxins.

So, the longer cooked rice is left at room temperature, the more likely it is that bacteria, or the toxins they produce, could stop the rice being safe to eat.

It's best to serve rice when it has just been cooked. If that isn't possible, cool the rice as quickly as possible (ideally within one hour) and keep it in the fridge for no more than one day until reheating.

Remember that when you reheat any food, you should always check that it's piping hot all the way through, and avoid reheating more than once.

I have reheated rice a few times a week, nothing's ever happened to me

Also, if you reheat Chienese you will die at the stroke of midnight :(
