Got some leftover wholegrain rice I feel that I shouldn't waste. I've read conflicting info regarding reheating rice in a microwave.

Chefs of OCUK, is it safe? Thanks :)

I've reheated rice my whole life without any problems. I think so long as you get it in the fridge soon after cooking, ie don't have it sat around at room temp for ages then you're good to go.

I believe Psycho Sonny's Uncle's Cat's Brother is a rice reheating specialist in his restaurant that he rents out (I won't say the name) so maybe he can come and give some excellent and accurate advice and maybe cook up a staff curry.

Safe. You have a 1 in a billion chance of getting I'll (figures made up) microwave/stove doesn't make any difference. The spores and toxins are not destroyed by heat.

But it's like eating rare steak, there's a risk involved with that, how many people care and how many actually get I'll from eating rare steak.

that's the advice, but I don't even bother with that and have never had issues.

Got to remember all these "rules" are to minimise risks as much as possible.

The only reason I clicked this thread was in the hope that someone would reference Psycho Sonny, cheers :)

It also depends on the rice. Uncle Ben's rice is steam treated before packaging to remove any chances of the spores causing issues.

Same.
Many times I've left it out at room temp for many hours before remembering that I need to put it in the fridge and well, I'm still alive.
Also plenty of times I've left it in the fridge for 2 days and it's been fine.

Home cooked rice isn't really considered to be that risky.

It's the stuff in the chinese buffet that has been kept warm in the bacterial germination danger zone temps for hours and days on end that you're meant to watch out for.

Same here. I eat rice at least twice a week and never had problems.

Even with takeaway rice I have reheated it the day after and not had a problem.

Genuine LOL. I'm looking forward to ordering a staff curry.

Get some chorizo, dice it up into little chunks and fry slightly in a pan.
Throw in your rice and a handful of grated cheddar, and you have a quick and delicious leftover rice recipe :)

If I've cooked rice I don't see a problem with reheating. I personally put it on a very low heat for 10 minutes in a wok to heat through slowly, then whack it up to finish off. Rice is always nicer the day after cooking as well!

I NEVER reheat rice the next day from a takeaway as ones around here are notorious for cooking rice the day before so it's been reheated once already.

Edited to add: just saw this after posting:
The rice you eat with your Chinese takeaway is always made the day before, (stored in the fridge) then reheated.
Quite correct - common thing from what I hear.

having had a look around, as i was interested in making some, it seems egg fried rice is best made from already cooked rice, so should be fine.

I just re-heated sweet & sour chicken with rice in the microwave, still tasted awesome! You'll be fine :D

Is your curry authentic though, yo?

Go figure.

Makes sense, given that it's always much better to fry slightly old rice. Probably something to do with the drying out; wet rice never fries very well.
