Hi all,

An old PC of mine (Gigabyte, Sempron 3300, PC3200 old) recently got dusted off as I thought I would clean it up and pass it on. I removed all the user accounts and unused programs thinking of stripping it back to basics. Including the removal of sound cards and wireless and such.

After giving the HD a good clean out of stuff I don't use, and copying the stuff I wanted to keep, I ended up with a basic XP machine.

I have since had a couple of issues with it, booting up with no desk top and freezing.

Hard drive seems to check OK but is a little noisy (250gb Hitachi Deskstar IDE)

I am wondering if I should just re-install Windows XP, its an old OEM copy, ony used on this machine? Or will this cause issues such as I experienced when I removed and re-installed hardware?

Cheers guys,

Its an original OEM disc which was bought sealed with it's original key numbers, so it will simply be a case of sticking the disc in, inputting the original key and re-formatting over the old stuff, and the doing the updates to SP3.

I will create a disc with the downloaded apps and drivers required too.
