reinstalling windows 8 after upgrading from xp

I took advantage of the £25 offer last year to upgrade from XP to win8
since then have upgraded to 8.1 for free

some things are playing up now so want to reinstall

how would I go about this?

Use the key in the readme file, then once installed change it to your key.

what will I lose with the reinstall?

is it better to wipe my c drive when doing it?

Backup beforehand and quick format during the installation.

that download has failed twice now, wasnt keeping an eye on it but it seemed to get to the end each time
