I have a Samsung NC10 netbook and I'm thinking of reinstalling windows due to a virus problem and I wondered if it was any different to doing a reinstall on a regular PC?
I've no problem reinstalling my PC and I've got access to a USB DVD drive so am I right in saying its just access the BIOS, set to boot from CD and follow the on-screen instructions using the Win XP CD I got with the netbook?

Sorry of these are daft questions but I've never reinstalled a laptop/netbook before!

Cheers,

I've just had a quick look and the Win XP CD I have says "System Recovery Media" and "Windows XP Home Edition for Ultra Low Cost PC's For Distribution Only With A New Samsung PC" but I cant see a Windows XP serial number anywhere!?!?!?

Can anyone tell me if this will do for a full fresh install??

Thanks......

I may be wrong but i think a "certificate" may be installed with the CD, and the bios will have a "key" which matches up with the certificate and activates automatically.

I repeat i may be wrong though! :)

Thanks for the opinion anyway!

I've been reading about using something called "WinToFlash" to let me install rather easily from a USB key so at the moment the only thing I'm a bit worried about is the Win XP serial number!!

Wish me luck....

Windows has a software to put windows installation on a USB key which i dont recently with windows 7, HOWEVER, im not sure if it only works with windows 7?

As you mentioned, WinToFlash is very handy if you need to install WinXP from a USB thumbdrive.
