Reinstalling windows, where does apple do its device backups to?

Reinstalling windows, I've made copies of the various libraries and personal folders, but where specifically does apple do its backups to?
Device backups.

Do I still need to 'unreg' all old devices before the reinstall, if I plan to use them again after, then reactivate?

Does apple still have those old limits?
