Hi, Im trying to reinstall XP on a Hewlett Packard PC. I've formatted the hard drive in paragon on another pc. But when I connect the hard drive back to the HP and insert XP disc, set boot priority to CD. All I get is "Error Loading operating system"

Any ideas please?

Probably a simple answer, but im

Thanks,
Mark

Must be either the cd isn't bootable (some copies aren't) or you've not set the boot order as you think.

Can't think of anything else.

this is wierd, boots up with 98se boot disk but if I use with cd-rom support the cd drive doesnt spin up at all. although its detected in the bios, have tried another drive

If the hard drive was split you may have found that some restore/recover files were on the partition.

Some systems from the well known makes give the xp disk as a restore cd and takes the files off the recover/restore section.

nope had to completely reformat the partitions, then i deleted them and made another, the full size of the hard drive. I dont think thats the problem anymore, but now, for some reason, the cd drive keeps clicking when its trying to read a disc, instead of spinning up it just tries to then clicks

Try another CD drive to be safe.

I know on HP Business PC's, they only started using a ghosted partition about 6 months ago, so it should boot from the CD's.

Or try another Windowx XP disk to see if it boots from that, to illiminate the problem.

sorry should have said I used another CD Drive and it does exactly the same thing, changed IDE cable and still does the same. I really haven't got a clue now?

right have tried two different cd's. Different drives. And now just put the two drives into a different computer and its still happening? Im so confused as to whats happening! Any ideas please?

Cheers,
Mark
