Been a while since I've bought a laptop and I was wondering mostly about performance.

Intel seem to have so many models out, they sure don't make things easy for the clueless.

I was looking for a laptop for work, sub £500. For that price I'm guessing the best I can get is an Intel i3.

There seems to be a rather large selection of CPU's at that price point from Celerons/T4xxx/su9xxx.

I'm just wondering their relative performance and what real world effect on usability they have.

On a related note, obviously a 15" laptop will be more portable than a 13", but is it really such a big difference?

do you mean 13 more portable than a 15, or 15 more portable than a 17?

I find my new 13 much more portable than my old 15 as it fits in all of my messenger bags. How ever 15 is still portable, so depends on your needs really.

My 17 inch laptop is horrible to move around, i just leave it on my desk as it isnt worth the hassle.

If you want relative performance of CPUs and GPUs, notebookcheck will tell you everything you need to know :)

From experience, there is a massive difference between a 15'' laptop and a 13'' notebook, made to be carried around. A 13'' notebook is sub 4lbs for starters, and much slimmer (no DVD drive, CULV cpu means less need for complicated cooling). a 15'' will have the advantage of a numeric pad though, as well as a DVD drive.

Two different things really. I'd certainly choose a 13'' notebook if I intend to carry it around a lot. and a 15'' for home computing, or the occasional transport, but not for regular commuting.
