I have a friend who is looking to build a gaming PC for £400. As far as I am aware he has KB/M and an OS, and would like to keep it as small as possible so it'll have to be an mATX build. I doubt he'll ever bother with overclocking and it'll be for a 1080p monitor.

£20 more would get him above 2GB video memory which feels worth it to me these days, even for 1080p. Just to cope better with those few games that need it (and expect more new games to follow suit).
