Release for Vista SP1....

Source = The Inquirer, so has to be very much taken with a pinch of salt.
The article starts with the words "rumour mill" - 9 times out of 10 they are the ones who have started the "rumour".

It is a dodgy news site, but to be honest it sounds about right. Vista is very good as it is, and a service pack isn't needed yet. I know some people have issues, but in my experience its been totally stable and works great with everything I throw at it.

yup, anybody who things sp1 is going to fix their vista woes is going to be in for a huge dissappointment. there isn't much wrong with it now. the main problem for most people is 3rd party drivers. but of course it's much more fun to bash microsoft. :p

Vista SP1 which MS think people may have problems with hardware like slighty age (older hardware) - but it may not need to update SP1 if detect new hardware that meet Vista - just have to wait and see when it come up.

MS still have lots of work to do before it ready to release -- I dont habe problems with my all hardwares with Vista x64 - it all prefer -- No crashing, No BSOD or freezing or restart - it stay all hours.. it depend which people using in thier PC hardwares, dont you think??

Tell that to the thousands and thousands of informed users who haven't bought it yet as they're waiting for the service pack. :)

Yep hearsay & from the people who once again didn't use it ether.
Get one person out of thousands having a problem & they post about it & then the people who dont have vista spread the bad news.
bad news spreads faster than good.

The complainers speak up more than the people who are happy.
A person with a complaint will more than likely make the effort to write a letter about bad service where very few would write in off there own back to praise.

Umm... do you keep up to date with the latest tech news? Are you aware of how poor vista sales are, and how many professionals are dissatisfied with it? :)

I don't care about what the pros think about it nore do a care about the sales as many factors can hamper the sales of a good product.

In other words you know... very little. :D

I said i don't care not that i don't know ;)
The pros don't want unproven OS with compatibility problems with the SW they use to run there businesses plus the cost of upgrading.
I would not expect businesses to touch a new OS for a year at least.
XP works so why change. businesses have always been slow to change if they cant just dump the SW they have on it.
Plus i don't run a business so i don't care :D

Home users are very uninformed for most part & don't like having the way they do things changed with out obvious benefits & when it comes to an OS they have got little clue to what is going on under the hood to what has changed to benefit them.
Plus XP works, some people just want to run there SW & don't care about much else.

That's FUD. Vista is selling great. Far better than XP was at this time after its launch.

"Professionals" probably aren't that high up in the game if they slate Vista.

As a company we are holding back on a Vista roll-out.
Not because we aren't impressed with the OS - we are.
However we are having a few final compatability issues and we would like to iron these out before we roll Vista out totally.
All of our new laptops are coming with Vista however and in most cases are doing just fine.

A lot of people seem to quote what the "pro's" are saying etc.
Are there any people here actually either in the industry or currently in a job position whereby they could be considered one of the "pro's" - maybe we should hear what they have to say?

My qualifications.
I'm the IT Manager for a company here in the UK.
We have approx. 80+ Windows workstations.
Gone are the days when you had to wait for the first SP before a roll out.
I rolled out a Windows 2000 AD domain long before SP1.
I rolled WinXP out as our standard desktop OS about a month after it's release - I was that impressed with it.
Vista is only taking longer due to issues with two custom pieces of software, but I still expect us to start rolling it out on all new PC's before it is a year old.

Hardware sales seem to indicate otherwise. Manufacturers were expecting a big hardware upgrade rush and most of them have seen sales going down, often blaming the lack of Vistas success on the consumer.

I'm not saying Vista is a poor operating system but I think most people were waiting for SP1 to fix many of the (apparent) bugs.

exactly

the only thing that peeves me about vista is the lack of classic search, i don't need indexing (although its far better than xp's indexing), i know where my files are kept

But your talking about hardware sales not vista.
I would not buy a new computer to get vista.
I would buy vista, hardware guys lose out.
And to be frank allot of people simply just don't need a new computer for what they do.

Can you list us some of these many bugs?
