Hi, I have been assigned 8 IP addresses with my ISP, how do i change between them? I have tried releasing my IP in windows, turning the PC off, turning the router off etc but nothing, just uses the same IP. I can't find anywhere in my router settings (WAG200G) to do the job, any ides?

cheers.

You need to disable NAT on the router then statically assign the IP address to the internal device.

Be warned though, NAT gives you basic protection from the internet, so make sure you're patched and firewalled on any device that you are doing this.

To be honest i don't really have a clue what you're on about ;) I know how to disable NAT etc but if i have to manually put in an IP address how do i know what to put in? You are talking to the worlds biggest novice in networking experience...

Why exactly do you need an ip range then? Just leave it set up as it is, using NAT.

Because some toe rag got hold of my IP in IRC and thought it would be fun to flood me while i'm playing online. I need to change my IP, i guess I'll just get my ISP to issue me a new one.

But why did you request the 8ip addresses if you don't know how to use them and what to do with them? They don't grow on trees. There is a set number and we are running out - until IPv6.

You will receive an the ip range, for example 87.127.76.1 to 87.127.76.8. 87.127.76.1 is network. You can't use it. 87.127.76.8 is broadcast, you can't use it. 87.127.76.2 is used by your router. You can't use it. Once you have disabled NAT and DHCP go into windows control panel. On network connections right click your network adapter; go to properties, then go to properties of internet protocol. Enter an ip address between the range you have been given there.

Alternatively, block *his* IP address on your router or send your ISP a message, and see if they can do anything.

When my ISP says here have 8 free IP addresses i tend to accept... 'He' is on a dynamic IP/various IP's/. Can't stop him being childish and messing things up, I'm not the only victim. Guess I'll just get my isp to issue me another ip address.

Quite likely that guy will track you down again. I'm sure your ISP won't be willing to change your IP range every few days.
