hi
there im considering a ford focus 1.6 tdci for my next car and was wondering do these engines still have the same common faults as the mondeo 2.0 tdci with clutch and injector issues as looking around the internet im getting mixed answerrs so not to sure

The 2 engines have precisely nothing in common

The MK3 Mondeo 2.0 TDCI is a ford engine, the 1.6 TDCI (along with the other current gen TDCIs) are PSA developed engines.

Obviously being a complex modern common rail diesel, there's still potential for big bills, but even the 1.8 TDCI in the Mk1 focus which shares a lot with the Mk3 Mondeo TDCI didnt suffer nearly as much from DMF and injector issues.

recently bought the missus a 55 plate 1.6tdci cmax. She initially wanted a little hot hatch but came round to the cmax eventually :). Probably thinking if she saved money on the motor she could get more shoes
. Anyway i digress sorry
when i was searching for common faults with these engines the biggest thing cropping up was egr valves either sticking or failing . It seems to affect cars upto 54 plate as from what I can gather ford made some modifications for 05 plate onwards.
Prices for the fix on this seemed to be around £400 for ford to replace egr valve and oil feed pipe.
Apart from that strongly urge you to stay away from the auto gearbox with this engine as they seemed to be plagued with issues
