Hey guys,

At the moment I've a Linksys WAG54G connected via ethernet to my pc sharing to the family pc about 30ft away. Without going into great detail, the Linksys has suffered stability problems (both wireless and wired) and we're looking for a replacement.

Soon I'll be getting a laptop for uni with the intention of being able to use it throughout the house (and preferably garden) without issue so a router with a strong signal'd be great. Price is less the issue, reliability is most important. It'd be nice if the router and adsl modem were combined but if there are better solutions available from separate boxes that'd be fine.

Thanks in advance.

Matt

Bump.

Looking round the DG834G looks similar to the WAG54G, would it provide the stability and increased range I'm looking for?

Thanks,
Matt

I just got the Netgear DG834G today and i luckly have the new V3 that just came out. It sems stable so far, but i've only use my Nintendo DS on it. It is certainly smaller than you Linksys you have at the moment and it runs cool as well.

It also has evolved into this very ipod-esq look, white plastic with some clear plastic. I like itm paid £65.

Edit - Competitor reference removed - Jokester

Cool, that seems very reasonable. Unless I'm mistaken it was topping £100 when I got the WAG54G.

What kind of range can you get with it (and through what kind of walls i.e. breezeblock, brick etc)? That's one of my main gripes with the WAG54G.

Thanks for dropping by.

Matt

yeah, i thnk it was too. btw, typing this now standing at the end of my garden, about 45 feet ish from the router through 1 timber/plaster internal wall and 1 brick external wall. getting 4 out of 5 bars in the wireless connection status.

Excellent stuff, thanks v much for checking!

It looks like the Netgear's a good option to go for then. £65's a v reasonable price.

Thanks for the help.

There is a newer Netgear router/modem that claims to give better signal, it has that blue light in the middle - The Netgear DG834PN RangeMax MIMO-G, it is about £80 online. To get that netgear for £65, you need to collect in store after reserve it online.

got the DG834G best router ive ever used got the rev 1. but with latest firmware, had it for 3/4 years with no trouble :)
