I'm being tasked with building a simple Wordpress website and they will need a hosting package for it. I've looked around a lot recently and most hosting packages have the cheap initial price offerings that then go up after a period. Are there any hosts you guys would recomment that are a consisitent fair price and is a reliable service. I know of Stablepoint, but are there any others?

Here's a list:

Allhost
Amazon Web Services
Bluehost
catalyst2
Clook
eUKhost
GoDaddy UK
Heart Internet
Hostgator
Hostinger
Hyve
Krystal
Stablepoint
tsoHost
UKHost4u

Of those, I have experience of Clook. They are reliable and a high quality outfit, they might not be the cheapest though.

UKHost4u gets good reviews on Trustpilot, so they might be worth a look too, but I haven't used them.

Yes, Stablepoint and Krystal are the ones often recommended here.

With Clook, their tech support is very good. I've never had any problems with the hosting, and if I have to ask them a question, I get a good answer. They have guys that know what they are talking about, and you get an answer quickly.

I also use Catalyst2 for Windows hosting. They are Northern Ireland based. You get to know the support staff, and they are helpful and knowledgeable, and they make an effort to help.

I use GoDaddy for domains but not hosting. They are a massive operation, so you won't get that personal touch from support, you are dealing with a large corporate.

I also use Hostgator in the US, and I would describe them as good value, maybe cheap and cheerful. The hosting is reasonable for what you pay, they do get issues fixed but it takes them a bit longer, and you are talking to support staff who then hand issues off to technical people.

There's more choices than I knew, I only knew of the main culprits that you get from searching, all the same faces. Stablepoint are looking favourite as they are probably the best known and very competitive gimmick-free pricing.

Definitely worth looking at although I did hear the original owners (ex-Tsohost/Paragon; was on OCUK) sold up but i never found anything official so take that with a humongous amount of salt especially as they still offer decent service and support.

Given there's better and cheaper providers like Porkbun, Cloudflare etc for domains, i wouldn't even touch them for that. And their hosting and infrastructure is woeful, especially around website email delivery (use a third-party provider to save pain) and the fact a lot of it is EU based now - i have to deal with them daily for work (directly and through Tsohost) and they're headache inducing especially when you need support.

Recently moved a site to flywheel who are dedicated Wordpress hosting.

They will migrate for free on 14 day demo, the admin panel is fairly decent, support is helpful, UK server if you request.

They regularly have free 4 months deal running and so you can basically try before you buy.
