I have been asked to sort a problem for an elderly lady. She has an HP machine, running Windows XP Media Edition. On the start up screen I get a message at the bottom of the screen:-

"Samsung Hard drive failure imminent - back up data and replace Press F2 to continue"

Pressing F2 does start up the machine normally. I have run the Windows defragger, Check Disk and run Scan Disk, but still get the same message.

The machine did not come with any Windows disks, but has a recovery partition. Problem I have is if I use the recovery partition to reset the machine I am still using a potentially faulty hard drive. Does any one now how I can use the recovery partition on a new hard drive?

The machine is about 2 years old according to the user, which if that is the case its a very short life for a hard drive of good quality such as the Samsung.

Any suggestions would be grateful.

Roger
