Germany is a great place, but to say it is better than the UK in every respect is naive. Grass always looks greener and all that. Maybe getting the German equivalent of the Dail Mail or the Sun might enlighten a few!
Relocating abroad (Germany) - anyone done it?

i was out on the town near Düsseldorf and was really nice to see young and old, posh and poor enjoying a drink, lots of families out to late with there dogs having a beer in a sensible manor. some young lads got a bit beered up, then all of a sudden some older blokes came over from another table and from what i understood from my German friend they basically said "you boys handle your drink like kids, take yourself home and learn to drink like a man" they left without any attitude.... oh how i wish the streets i live in were like that
what about renting your house out ? if you decide you definitely want to stay in germany then surely making a small loss on your house sale wont matter so much when you buying a cheaper german house ?
will your company help out with relocation costs ? and will you be paid in £ or Euros ?

Yeah I know Dusseldorf well, it's a bit 'grey' (Both the buildings and the weather), but nice enough, the old centre is lovely, and there are some nice drinking spots down by the river in a huge 'marquee thing'.

I lived in Munich for 5 years, it was fantastic there. Unfortunately I did have to go to Frankfurt quite often as we had a datacentre there and it was a horrible place. My last visit there I was greeted by some heroin addicts being arrested outside my hotel. It was seriously the worst place I've ever worked in Germany and I hated going there. Munich is a tough place to compare anywhere to though - I guess it's like comparing London to Coventry or something.
Having said that - give it a go, you might like it and it will be a great experience whatever happens.

The Germans hate Bavarians yeah, no one likes someone 'better' than them - that's why all the northerners in England hate southerners.
Do it. Today if possible. I'm moving to their southern cousins (Austria) next year after extensively researching every nook and cranny about that country. It would've been Germany had it not been for family in Austria. I visit Germany and Austria at least 8+ times a year. I love it there. However, go to Frankfurt first. Walk around a bit, read up on it. Then move!

yeah i enjoy it, the summer season is great all out in the streets, and they ignore the smoking ban which is good for me

Hmm...
The German ICE train is a marvel of engineering excellence... we still use diesel intercity 125's, which are slower than driving a car...
The Autobahns are some of the finest, smoothest bits of tarmac in the world, we have the M25 riddled with speed cameras all the way round
The Germans have a good football team, whereas we are just embarassing
Food and beer are made to stricter and tighter standards in Germany, we have Iceland Chicken Nuggets.
Germany has hotter summers and colder winters (mainly), again, this is better than cold and grey with a chance of rain. (EVERY DAY).
Germans DO have some immigration, however, we have Birmingham and Edgware Road in London. They do not have this level of problem.
German houses and tradesmen are of and work to a higher standard than us.
We don't own any of our own once great car manufacturers, Germany has BMW, Porsche, VAG, Wiesmann etc etc
I mean really... can anyone think of ANYTHING we do better than the Germans apart from CHAVS, Music and comedy?

The Autobahns I experienced while driving around Germany had surfaces worse than most British motorways. They weren't smooth at all and were a patch work of dodgy repairs.

C) You post like an 11 year old and like someone who has never actually been to Germany (I don't think you've ever been on an AutoBahn for example, the road surfaces are no better than our motorways, and subject to crazy tailbacks due to roadworks, etc, not to mention nearly all of it is restricted on speed now)
So tell us, where in Germany have you been and for how long?
