So ,an important one.

Planning to move job and home to the southwest with intention of buying a house.
I don't know either area well personally but want more outdoors /ocean /river stuff for hobbies like kayaking and also access to Cornwall/North Wales.

Moving from Lincolnshire which I have no love for.

Cardiff sounds ideal if I can get a job, Bristol I can definitely get a job soon ish
Cardiff is much much cheaper to live. And I assume beaches are better.

My heart says Cardiff but would be great to get some first hand views.

I would expect my salary to be 35-40 in both locations.

Any help would be great

Thanks for all the suggestions. Sounds like both are fine. Which is great as it may come down to the job.

Cardiff appeals because its so close to my hobbies (kayaking, nice beaches, wildlife) but feel Bristol has more opportunities. But I could get a lovely house for much less in Cardiff than Bristol

I don't really care about nightlife, but outdoor side of things and cheap houses are massive perks to Cardiff.
Mostly I spend my time in house doing geeky stuff or at pub with friends during day playing. Boardgames, activities like laser quest.
Other side of me is kayaking, body boarding (with aim to surf ) exploring countryside

I work in BI, data analysis

More I think about it more. I am drawn to Cardiff. I'll probably live on the outskirts as I live in a market town now.

Garden is also a desire and seems much more Feasible in Cardiff

With salaries so Close it seems a bit of a no brainer to look in Cardiff

Decided to skip Bristol and definitely go for Cardiff. I don't want the long commute to Bristol, and I don't want to pay Bristol House prices (I won't be earning any more or Less in either place)

So exclusively looking in that area.

Really appreciate all the replies.this community is the best

I lived in Peterborough before moving to Bristol, no comparison. And when I was very young I lived in Little Bytham, just outside Stamford, still have family in Bourne. I truly would not want to live there again, lack of jobs, in fact a lack of anything really. I've lived in Bristol and now Maidstone in Kent, which although in the country there's a wealth of jobs (and people) here so doesn't ever feel out in the sticks.

Good luck with the move OP, make sure to make the most of what's (going to be) on your doorstep!! :)

Thanks! Yeah it's pretty bleak here isn't it. Only people I know here moved here for jobs. No one chose to live here. I think that says it all

Thanks for all the input guys.
Making the move to Cardiff within the month

Cardiff seems better for me and cheaper too.
And with my salary being same in Cardiff as Bristol it's a no brainer.

Can't wait. So much greenery, sea Pembrokeshire, beautiful country all round

Once I get sorted I'm buying a sea kayak and following this will probably die at sea .You only live once!

Just got a job in Cardiff.
So I'm very happy. The beach is 15 mins drive away ,the hills are so close. Spent a couple of days there for my interview. The city doesn't seem big.

Can't wait
3 interviews and got Offered all 3 jobs. Which I was pretty pleased with.

Turned one down as it was near current home even though it was more money.
Turned one down in Bristol and too far to commute (see the above post!)
Accepted this one because I really like the sound of the company.

Awasome to hear that.

Gf has just got a job too so the shift is going to be much more seemless.
Moving next weekend. Already signed up to my first social event and see a few surfing events too. Glad I'll be there for summer

One last update.

Arrived in Cardiff a couple of weeks ago for new job, so I've been living in Airbnb for a couple of weeks with full move this week.

So far (2 weeks in) Cardiff is everything I wanted in terms of hobbies.
I get to finish at 4, can get to beach for kayaking before 5pm even on weekdays.

Probably helps that every single day has been hot and dry!

Glad I didn't chose Bristol. As said, the roads are chaos! Now I've witnessed this first hand.

I'm 33 and wish I had done this sooner!
Life is too short to wait around.
Never been obsessed with money so have a modest paying job (35k) but with BI only change is up really And as I'm not having kids this is plenty to do all things I want to.

New evening activity...
